About Us

Under the leadership of Bishop George Archie, of Moments of Blessings House of Prayer, Elder Augustes Newsome, Jr. was inspired by God to be a Shepherd to His people.  On May 15, 1982, Elder A. Newsome, Jr., his wife and children began the Showers of Blessings Ministry at the Collins Memorial Baptist Church on Del Paso Blvd. in Sacramento, California.  After renovating the building for worship, the church continued there for the next six months.  With the help of a few faithful members, the Lord continued to bless the membership as souls were saved and added to the church.

In April of 1983, the Showers of Blessings Ministry was able to lease space in the Lennox Shopping Center on 44th and Lemon Hill Street.  After much work and sacrifice by Pastor Newsome and the members of the Church, Showers of Blessings purchased its current location, 3836 48th Avenue in May of 1992.

On June 10, 1995, the Lord saw fit to take our founding leader from labor to reward.  Although the Showers of Blessings Ministry went through one of its greatest trials, through the loss of our founding Pastor, there would soon be the “DAWNING OF A NEW DAY”.

On June 22, 1996, at the 39th Annual California Northwest Holy Convocation in Oakland, California, Elder Darnell Thomas from the Progressive Church of God in Christ received his official appointment as Pastor of the Showers of Blessings Church of God in Christ from Bishop W.W. Hamilton, Jurisdictional Prelate of California Northwest Jurisdiction.

Under the leadership of Pastor Thomas, Showers of Blessings Church of God in Christ experienced phenomenal growth and progress. Due to the overwhelming growth, an additional Morning Worship Service was added to house and accommodate the members and visitors that would attend each week.  Having three services each Sunday, weekly Bible Sty and over 50 active ministries, Pastor Thomas has established Showers of Blessings to be a ministry of deliverance, hope, healing and restoration.

On October 29, 2007, construction of a new edifice began and the old sanctuary and annex were demolished.   The untiring labor of Pastor Thomas has resulted in a 15,912 sq. ft. building with an 800 seating capacity that was completed in March, 2009. The Lord has blessed us with a first-class facility. Although construction of the second phase has not begun, the Showers of Blessings Church provides unprecedented opportunities to serve its members, visitors and the surrounding community.

Grace and Mercy is the only way to describe what has happened and is happening at the Showers of Blessings Church.  We continue to thank and praise God not only for what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do, but most importantly for WHO HE IS!
